Why I Blocked Someone From Commenting

Normally, I would never block someone from commenting on my site because I enjoy debates and am looking for feedback on everything I write. I am making an exception in this one case because the person was repeatedly condescending and our 80 or so long comment debate has turned into a giant waste of my time. If the person is reading this, feel free to think you won that debate-the comments should still be up there for anyone to see.

I’ll probably make an addition to my last post or make a new one in the future on my argument (about the incompatibility of free will and omniscience). For now, I’ll be working on my debate with Mitchell (which I highly recommend reading if you have the time).

It seem strange to cut off a discussion without giving the person a chance to respond. You just give yourself the last word and thats it?

It was a discussion that lasted several months, with 50+ replies most of them being essay length, and my points were rehashed over and over. Normally I’d oblige and keep explaining the ideas of the argument, but not when the debate opponent is condescending. It’s not worth it to me to spend so much of my free time discussing philosophy with someone like that.

Seems like you could just stop responding instead of banning the guy, but whatever its your site, you can do whatever you want.

I banned him because I don’t want him commenting on any of my other posts either. There comes a point where I’m not going to just sit back and let a guy talk down to me over and over.

Yea that makes sense. He talks down to you and says your immature, and you respond by banning him from the site. I guess you showed him who’s mature.

Not sure why you’re so interested in this, but the debate is still there if you want to go read it. It’s “Why Omniscience is Incompatible with Free Will”, under categories Religion and Metaphysics. If you think I ought to keep spending my time responding to him, you could at least spend your own time reading the debate.

If you want to think I made a quick immature decision, feel free to do so. I simply don’t care to spend several hours a week talking with a complete stranger when that stranger doesn’t even have common courtesy.

    The egoist versus the dramatist?
